Damayanti is a multidisciplinary designer with a soft spot for illustration and the written word, and a deep love for brands that tell a story.
Born in Washington D.C., Damayanti grew up in India, in a family of journalists and architects. Forever curious about the world, she remembers sketching, reading and journaling from a very young age. Damayanti studied English literature, film, and journalism, before deciding that she wants to design for a living. Armed with a Masters Degree in Graphic Design from the prestigious “National Institute of Design”, she went on to hone her skills at prominent creative agencies in Mumbai and Kolkata. At nights she lay awake, longing for a bigger adventure. In 2018, Damayanti made another leap and moved back to the U.S. on her own terms, in essence, starting over from scratch, carrying with her a perspective shaped by two very different and diverse cultures.
Over the years, her early curiosity grew into a complete creative practice spanning illustration, graphic design, UI/UX, and brand identity. Damayanti works closely with clients to understand not just what they need, but why they need it, so the work they make together holds up long after the project wraps. In the process, she enjoys building meaningful, long term relations with her clients. She has helped build entire brands from the ground up, led and mentored design teams, advised clients on communication and brand strategy, art-directed campaigns, and designed digital products informed by robust user research.
Outside of her professional life, she is always looking for ways to express herself, whether through songwriting, singing, sketching or working on different printmaking techniques. Brooklyn, New York, where she resides with her husband, has been the perfect muse and playground for her creative pursuits.
